JPs (that's Jewish Professionals!) go speed dating: Meet. Chat. Drink. A new speed dating organisation designed to connect like-minded professionals.
Before we launch our first event, we thought that some of you new to speed dating may have a few questions about the events that we run. Hopefully this list should clear up any queries you may have. If you question is not listed here, please feel free to email us at jpsgospeeddating@gmail.com and we will endeavour to reply within 48 hours.
Q. Do I have to be Jewish to attend the events?
A. Yes.
Q. How old are people on the events?
A. At present, JPs go speed dating exclusively caters for 23-32 year olds inclusive.
Q. Do I have to be in the age limit to attend?
A. The age range is a guideline only, if you are slightly under or above the age limit you are still welcome to attend. However, if you are, or appear to be, significantly outside of the age range then you are unlikely to get a match.
Q. How many people will I meet?
A. Depending on the venue, we aim to have around 10 men and 10 women at each event, although this may vary in due course.
Q. How long will I spend with each person?
A. You will have 5 minutes to chat with each individual.
Q. Is 5 minutes long enough?
A. Yes, 5 minutes can be a long time with someone you do not 'connect' with. However, it is long enough to know whether you would like to invest a few hours getting to know each other on a further date.
Q. How long will the event last?
A. The event will last for about an hour with the option to continue mingling and the bar afterwards.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Smart casual is best, something you feel comfortable and confident in - think what you would wear to go on a mid-week date.
Q. Are the events held in private?
A. Yes, the events take place in rooms which have been specifically hired for the event.
Q. Can I come alone?
A. Yes, most speed daters do come alone. Once you have registered you can have a drink at the bar and mix with other participants.
Q. Can I bring a friend?
A. Absolutely. The more the merrier but they will need to have registered for the event.
Q. When will I know if I have a match?
A. You will be emailed within a few hours of the event with an electronic form to fill out, indicating whether or not you wish each of the people you have met to be a friend or a date. Once all forms have been returned (typically this takes up to 48 hours after submission) we will inform you of your matches via email.
Q. A lot of the women's/men's tickets are sold out. Can you squeeze a couple more in?
A. We have to manage numbers carefully to ensure equal numbers of men and women at our events. However we are often able to take additional bookings that do not effect the balance of numbers - eg two men and two women. Please e-mail to check.
Q. How do I book?
A. Once each event is confirmed you will be able to go to our secure server to pay by credit/debit card. Alternatively, you will be able to send a cheque as long as it is at least 7 days before the event. We will reserve your place and confirm your booking once your cheque has cleared.
